Botany Outing Report: Kin Beach, Sept. 14, 2015

Six botanists visited Kin Beach Park on a cloudy day, discovering several unusual beach plants including California broomrape , previously unknown in the area.

Uncommon plants:
California broomrape, American and European sea-rocket ( the latter new to Helen at Kin Beach), red goose-foot? and Suksdorf’s mugwort.

Common plants:
hairy cats ear, hawk-bit, Dalmatian Toad Flax, silverburr weed, yarrow, gumweed, sheep’s sorrel, pepper grass, wormwood, woolly sunflower, orach, cranesbill geranium, queen Anne’s lace.

The Park is mostly free of invasive Scotch broom thanks to the efforts of local neighbours and park stewards.
