Morrison Creek Walk, Sept. 29

Furthering the public’s interest in this summer’s watershed walks, Comox Valley Nature is offering a free public guided walk at Morrison Creek.

As home to a rare species of lamprey (Lampetra richardsoni var. marifuga) Morrison Creek is also home to coho, pink, chum salmon and rainbow and cutthroat trout, thanks to the stewardship and vigilance of Morrison Creek streamkeepers. While it is well-known for its fish population, Morrison Creek is also an important model of riparian vegetation flora and vegetation structure in a suburban setting. These additional features make it home to a wide array of birds.

Comox Valley Nature’s long-standing member and retiring Swan Count Co-ordinator, Steph Nathan, will be leading a walk on Saturday, September 29. Interested participants should meet at 10 am at Lake Trail School. They should park on Lake Trail Rd. (not on school property). Carpool from there to limit parking on Arden Rd. Inquiries about this walk should be directed to Steph Nathan (334-7701).

Meetings and lectures of the Comox Valley Naturalists Society are held on the third Sunday of most months at the Florence Filberg Centre, 411 Anderton, Courtenay. Meetings and guided walks are open to the public, including children and youth. Lecture is free, though a $3 contribution from non-members is appreciated. New memberships are always welcomed.

Anyone interested in participating in CVNS activities can also contact Loys Maingon (CVN President) at 250-331-0143.
