There will be four to five organized Christmas Bird Counts in December in the Comox Valley and area. Four are organized by the Birding Group and Young Naturalists Club of Comox Valley Nature.
This year Comox Valley Nature will inaugurate a formal “Kid’s Christmas Bird Count” organized by the Young Naturalists coordinator, Lisa Zervakis and Dr. Art Martell. This is an exceptional outing with master birders for kids 5-14, accompanied by parents, December 15, from 9am – 1pm. This is a first for the Comox Valley, having its first annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4Kids). This event is limited to 40 children. Contact Lisa Zervakis: 250-871-2730.
Other Christmas bird counts are for adults 16 and up. The first is on Sunday, December 16 in Comox. The second covers the Deep Bay area on Wednesday, December 19. The third is a seabird survey,on Thursday December 27, aboard the Little River to Powell River Ferry. The fourth is the Campbell River Count on Saturday, December 29.
